Fatally Shot Motorist Crashes Into Parked Cars, House

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man died after he was shot in the back while driving, then crashed into several parked cars and a house Wednesday afternoon in the West Pullman neighborhood on the South Side.

The man, 31, was driving in in the 11800 block of South Harvard Avenue about 5:40 p.m. when he heard multiple gunshots and was struck in the back, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into other parked cars before hitting a house, Greer said.

Dane Whitfield, of the 11800 block of South Harvard Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he died at 6:55 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one else was hurt in the shooting or the crash.

No one is in custody and Area South detectives are investigating.
