Comcast Reporter Susannah Collins No Longer With Network

CHICAGO (CBS) — Comcast SportsNet Chicago reporter Susannah Collins has left the network, after an on-air slip led to renewed attention on other, more controversial on-air work, according to published reports.

“Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways,” Phil Bedella, vice president and general manager of CSN Chicago said in a statement. “We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

On Tuesday, Collins inadvertently said that the Blackhawks had a “tremendous amount of sex during the regular season.” The mistake went viral. She meant to say “success” and quickly corrected the slip.

But the Chicago Tribune reports, the mistake led to renewed focus of previous work by Collins that was filled with sexual innuendo and other inappropriate content.

As co-host of Sports Nutz, Collins filed sexually charged reports that included lowbrow humor. The videos remain on YouTube. However, the existence of those clips is hardly a secret. She acknowledged the videos in this interview with Paul Banks of the Chicago Sports Media Watch blog.

Collins is a Downers Grove native and a University of Illinois graduate.

[…] Susannah Collins was canned by Comcast Sports Net Thursday night, though as of this writing there hasn’t been a clear explanation as to why. The scapegoat as of now is not her verbal sex faux pas on air Tuesday, but instead a series of raunchy videos she was in prior to working at CSN that she was never trying to keep secret in the first place. There’s speculation already that this may be more coming from the Blackhawks than Comcast. (The Blackhawks own 25 percent of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago.) Either way, this seems very much like an overreaction and stinks. Way more so than Kendall Gill’s suspension-that’s-actually-likely-a-firing. […]
