West Side Man Charged With Shooting 10-Year-Old Boy

(CBS) -- An Austin neighborhood man was charged Friday afternoon with the shooting of a 10-year-old boy Wednesday night on the West Side.

Darris Moore, 31, of the 800 block of North Waller Avenue was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Friday afternoon.

Moore is accused of shooting the 10-year-old about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of North Waller Avenue.

Police said the boy was playing near his home when a fight broke out between two nearby groups of males.

A gunman then came running north on Waller, firing shots at one of the groups involved in the fight, police said.

One of the bullets struck the boy, who was not the intended target, in the buttocks, police said. No one else was injured.

Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said the boy was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.

Moore is expected in bond court Saturday.
