Former Daley Official Norma Reyes Dies At 56

Norma Reyes was an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney while Richard M. Daley held the top job and she became a Deputy Chief of Staff when Daley was elected Mayor.

She would go on to become Commissioner of Buildings and Head of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection until she retired in 2011.

She also once worked in the WBBM Newsroom.

City Council Budget Committee Alderman Carrie Austin was supposed to meet with Reyes yesterday but she never arrived.

"So I am sitting there, as I do, just fussing, 'Where is she, you better get her on the phone' and to come in this morning to know that she had made her transition into heaven just really stopped me in my tracks to know that God is on the throne," said Austin.

Norma Reyes was 56 and remembered for her intelligence, hard work and smile.
