1 Dead, 9 Wounded In Overnight Violence

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and nine were wounded in shootings across the city that began Wednesday afternoon and continued until just past midnight Thursday.

Police said a 47-year-old man was found shot to death in the 10200 block of South Green Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood about 8:30 p.m. Few other details were given.

The man's name was not being released by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office pending notification of his family.

The most recent shooting happened at 12:01 a.m. in the 100 block of West 124th Street, when a man was grazed by a bullet on his thigh, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. The man was in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

On the Northwest Side, a man was hospitalized in good condition after he was shot in the shoulder about 10:25 p.m. in the 2900 block of Wisner Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood, police said.

Earlier, police arrested a gunman after he opened fire on a 16-year-old boy in the North Lawndale neighborhood about 9:45 p.m., police said. The boy, who is a known gang member, was standing in the 3600 block of West 16th Street when the gunman approached on foot and fired off a hail of bullets, police said.

Police were unsure just how many times the boy was shot, though they added that it was a significant number. The boy remained in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital early Thursday. Charges against the gunman were pending early Thursday, police said. His arrest was the only one made in connection with any of the shootings.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg during a possible robbery at 9:45 p.m. in the 4600 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said. He was hospitalized in "stable" condition at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn.

In the West Garfield Park neighborhood a man was shot in the mouth about 8:30 p.m., police said. The 25-year-old man was taken in "stable" condition to Mount Sinai Hospital after he was shot in the 900 block of West Flournoy Street, police said.

About 6 p.m. in the South Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood, a 31-year-old man was shot in the forearm the 7000 block of South Talman Avenue, police said. He was listed in "stable" condition at Holy Cross Hospital, police said. A second victim walked into Christ with a gunshot wound to lower back and was listed in "stable" condition.

Two men were shot about 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of West 72nd Street in the South Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said. Two men, ages 19 and 22, were both shot in the leg and taken in "stable" condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center.
