Elgin Fight Ends With 3 Stabbed, 3 In Jail

ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) -- Three men have been charged with stabbing and beating three other men during a disturbance outside the Gasthaus zur Linde tavern in downtown Elgin early Friday.

Police said they were called at about 1:13 a.m. to the area of 15 N. Grove Ave. They found three victims who had suffered stab wounds as well as injuries caused by being struck with a baseball bat. All three victims were taken to area hospitals, where, police said, they were still being treated for their injuries Friday night.

Police Lt. Dan O'Shea said investigators from the Elgin Gang Crimes Unit and Major Investigations Division developed information and identified three suspects. These were brought in for questioning Friday afternoon and eventually were arrested.

Adan Sandoval, 20, of the 400 block of South Edison Avenue, was charged with armed violence, a Class X felony; aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony; and mob action, a Class 4 felony.

Reggie Cortez, 18, who resides in the 900 block of Annandale Drive, was charged with aggravated battery and mob action.

A 14-year-old Elgin resident, whose name was not revealed because he is a juvenile, was charged with armed violence, aggravated battery and mob action.

O'Shea said the two adult suspects were being held in the city jail pending Saturday bond court. The 14-year-old was transferred to the Kane County Youth Detention Center.

O'Shea said witnesses stated that some people used cellphones to shoot photos or videos of the attacks, and detectives are very interested in seeing those. The police are asking anyone with pictures or video to contact the Gang Investigation Division at 847-289-2646. People also can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at 847-695-4195 or by texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text along with the message and/or tip information.
