Woman Going To Prison For Driving Child To School While Drunk
(STMW) -- A west suburban woman has been sentenced to prison for her fourth DUI arrest after she dropped her child off at school while intoxicated.
Jeanette Baum, 32, of Batavia, was sentenced Friday to four years in prison, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.
About 8:55 a.m. on Nov. 27, 2012, Batavia police found Baum sitting in the driver's seat of a stalled car after she crashed into a utility box near North Avenue and North Jefferson Street, a statement from prosecutors said.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, and observed slurred speech and glassy eyes.
Baum told police she had just dropped her child off at school and was returning home, prosecutors said. She failed field sobriety tests, was placed under arrest and breath test showed her blood-alcohol concentration was .190 percent.
She pleaded guilty Jan. 4 to one count of aggravated DUI, a Class 2 felony.
Baum, of the 0-99 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Batavia, was on probation at the time for a 2011 conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, the state's attorney's statement said.
Baum also had three DUI violations between 1997 and 2007 in Kane and DuPage counties.
Baum was sentenced to four years for the aggravated DUI and four years for the drug possession, with the terms to be served concurrently. She was given credit for at least 165 days served in the Kane County Jail, where she has been held since her arrest on a $20,000 bond.
