CHICAGO (STMW) – A 19-year-old man was shot to death Monday evening while he was inside a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood restaurant, according to authorities.

Brandon Byars, of the 7800 block of South Eberhart Avenue, was pronounced dead at 7:02 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County about 45 minutes after he was shot, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Byars was inside the restaurant in the 500 block of East 79th Street when a gunman on the outside saw him and opened fire, shooting him several times in the back, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

No one was in custody and police said they have not established a motive for the slaying. Byars’ death was under investigation, police said.
