Elderly Bicyclist Struck And Killed By Car On Northwest Side

CHICAGO (STMW) – A 83-year-old man was killed while riding his bike after he was hit by a car on the Northwest Side Tuesday night, authorities said.

Leonard Ratajczyk, 83, was hit while riding his bike in the 7800 block of West Irving Park Road in the Dunning neighborhood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Ratajczyk was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at 11:15 p.m.

He was riding his bike west on Irving Park Road about 9:10 p.m. when he was hit by a car also also traveling west, said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli, adding that the driver was cited for failure to reduce speed.
