That's All She Wrote: Anyone Seen Gabe Carimi?

By George Ofman-

(CBS) Carlos Zambrano's signed a minor league deal with the Phillies and the Liberty Bell just asked to be placed in the witness protection program. Speaking of witness protection, anyone seen Gabe Carimi lately?

___________

Here's the conundrum for the Bulls: With Derrick Rose returning next season and Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer back along with Taj Gibson and the emerging Jimmy Butler, does this team retool the bench and take one last shot or does it begin the makeover now?  Do you consider Butler in any package for a major player in return?

___________

And can we finally put this to rest? The Bulls DO NOT have enough to win.

___________

The United center is now available Friday night. How about a pick-up game involving D-rose and the DePaul Blue Demons? I'm not sure Jerry Reinsdorf and Rocky Wirtz would go for this.

___________

Is Travis Wood for real? Eight consecutive quality starts to begin a season equals that of the immortal Hippo Vaughn who pitched for the Cubs in 1919. That's when team President Bill Veeck Sr. tried hanging vines off the rooftops in left field. It didn't go over very well with Beth Murphy or Tom Tunney's dad.

___________

Looks like Carlos Villanueva is the odd man out when Matt Garza returns. He's headed to the bullpen but if Garza pitches well, he'll be the next odd man out... out of the organization.

___________

There was a time during the third period Wednesday when I thought the Hawks had 100 shots on goal. They were so dominant. It's hard to see this series going anymore than five games.

___________

Coach Q should win the Jack Adams' trophy signifying coach of the year. If he doesn't win, the league should look at instant replay, and then reverse the decision.

___________

I'm deciding whether Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane's playoff beards are real or simply Chia Pets.

___________

Rip Hamilton's tenure with the Bulls is finished but his griping about coaches won't. He made an impact in Game 5 but imagine a fresher Marco Belinelli in the fourth quarter.

___________

Take a bow Nate Robinson and exit stage left.

___________

The Tribune's Wednesday cover page in Sports was priceless. It had Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Derrick Rose and Patrick Kane emulating the Beatles on the cover of their Abbey Road album. And Rose was Paul McCartney walking barefoot. Nicely done.

___________

News flash: Adam Dunn is rebuilding his stroke. Do you hire a specialist for this or simply go to Angie's List and find a mason? Either way, it's working and if Dunn keeps this up, opposing pitchers could suffer a stroke. And Jeff Keppinger got a big, two-run double in Wednesday's Sox victory at Minnesota. This warrants a parade down Spaulding Avenue.

___________

The Dodgers can't hit but Clayton Kershaw's ERA is 1.4. I'm telling you he's the next Sandy Koufax.

___________

Floyd Mayweather is projected to earn $90 million this season, tops among athletes in American sports for a second straight year. Yep, crime pays!

___________

And that's all she wrote.
