1 Dead, 2 Critically Wounded In Shooting At Englewood park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman has died and two others were critically wounded during a shooting in an South Side Englewood neighborhood park Saturday night.

A group of people was standing in a park in the 6800 block of South Lowe Avenue about 9:10 p.m. when a shooter or shooters opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Three people were hit by the gunfire, he said.

Shaneda Lawrence, 30, of the 9600 block of South Peoria Street, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 12:46 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office after police said she suffered a gunshot wound in the head.

The attack also left a 27-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the wrist, and a 37-year-old man shot in the back, Alfaro said.

Both were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Centers in "stable" condition, though doctors expect to transfer the woman to Stroger Hospital, Alfaro said.

The attack happened at Ryan Harris Memorial Park, maps show.

Area South detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody Saturday night.
