4 Dead, 11 Hurt In Shootings Since Wednesday Afternoon

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were killed and at least 11 others were wounded in shootings Wednesday and early Thursday, including a 56-year-old woman who police found shot in the head on a South Side sidewalk.

Officers on routine patrol near the South Shore neighborhood heard gunshots coming from the area near East 79th Street and South East End Avenue about 11:45 p.m., police said.

When they arrived at the location they discovered the 56-year-old woman lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The woman was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she died early Thursday, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Earlier, a man in his 20s was found shot to death in the 7500 block of South Carpenter, police said. No details were available.

About 2:15 p.m., a 34-year-old Michael Kizer was fatally shot outside his home in the 0-100 block of West 107th Street in Roseland neighborhood on Far South Side, authorities said. Two shooters walked up to Kizer and opened fire, striking him multiple times, police said. Kizer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was declared dead at 3:11 p.m., authorities said.

Two separate shootings just blocks apart in the West Pullman neighborhood left one man dead and another wounded Wednesday afternoon. At 1:08 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the neck and side at 122nd and Halsted, police said. He was pronounced dead at Roseland Community Hospital. At 1:07 p.m., a man was grazed by a bullet at 122nd and Carpenter. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Ten other people were injured between Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday:

◆ The most recent shooting happened about 12:30 a.m., when shots rang out on the West Side, grazing the head of a man riding passenger in a vehicle in the 3800 block of West Lexington Street, police said. The driver then took the 24-year-old man to Saint Anthony Hospital for treatment. No one was in custody.

◆ At 12:30 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 6300 block of South Hamilton by a gunman whom he knew, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with gunshot wounds in both legs, police said. No one was in custody.

◆ About 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 40-year-old man was shot in the leg near 71st and King Drive in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Further details were not available.

◆ Just before 9 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 4300 block of South Michigan in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

◆ About 7 p.m., a gunman walked up and shot two people sitting on a porch near 70th and Normal in the Englewood neighborhood. A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks. Both were taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

◆ Two men, a woman and a 15-year-old boy were wounded in drive-by shooting outside a Bronzeville neighborhood cellphone store about 5:45 p.m., police said. Someone in a silver car shot at a group, police said. The boy and a 19-year-old woman were shot in the leg, and both were in good condition at University of Chicago Hospitals, police said. A 19-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was good condition at Stroger Hospital. A 41-year-old man was treated at the scene for a graze wound.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the fatalities but declined to release the names of all but one of the homicide victims.
