Woman Charged With Stabbing Baby To Death

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 21-year-old woman has been charged with killing her 5-month-old son at a North Side motel on Thursday, in what police said was an apparent murder-suicide attempt.

Kimberlynn Bolanos, of the 2700 block of West Balmoral Avenue, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her son, Isaac, at the Diplomat Motel in the 5200 block of North Lincoln Avenue, police said.

The boy and his mother were in a room at the motel around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The boy had been stabbed to death, and the woman had been severely injured after suffering multiple stab wounds. Police have said Bolanos apparently stabbed herself after killing her baby.

Bolanos was being treated at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, according to police.

"I was playing with the baby yesterday," hotel guest Lue McCullum said. "I can't believe this."

Sonia Reyes, who lives in the area, said Bolanos should have sought help if she was having trouble, rather than apparently killing her own child and trying to commit suicide.

"There's a police station a couple blocks away from here. All she had to do was take [him] there if she was sad, or going through some depression right now," she said. "If she needed help, she could have gotten help."
