CHICAGO (CBS) -- Stealing a box of Starburst candy from a convenience store would generally not result in felony charges, unless it's your 77th arrest.

Amarri C. Bowens, 22, of the 100 block of North Campbell Avenue, was charged with felony theft because of his prior conviction for burglary and extensive criminal history, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Bowens has been arrested 77 times and convicted 16 times for crimes including trespassing, cannabis possession, retail theft and illegally selling on CTA property, Mirabelli said.

Bowens allegedly stole the box of Starbursts, worth $30, from a convenience store at the CTA Addison Red Line stop at 940 W. Addison St., then fled on foot, Mirabelli said.

Belmont District police officers caught him in the alley of the 3600 block of North Sheffield Avenue about 9:30 a.m., Mirabelli said.

Bond was set at $30,000, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office website.
