Human Leg Found On South Lakeshore

(STMW) -- The leg that was found on a Kenwood neighborhood lakeshore Wednesday afternoon on the South Side was human, an autopsy Thursday found. No other details about where the leg came from were known announced.

Police were notified at 2:42 p.m. of a human leg on a shore in the 4700 block of South Lake Shore Drive.

Authorities said a person walking along Lake Michigan found the leg on the rocks near the lake, which was severed from the hip down.

An autopsy on Thursday confirmed that the leg was a human, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, but no information was available as far as the age or gender of the person it once belonged to.

Area Central detectives are conducting a death investigation.
