CHICAGO (CBS) -- Brad Pitt has been making surprise appearances at screenings of his new zombie film, "World War Z," and he showed up at a screening in Chicago last night.

WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports Chicagoans aren't really known for being the star-struck type, but maybe it's different with Pitt, who was greeted by a screaming crowd as he showed up at the AMC River East 21 movie theater on Thursday.

There were plenty of shouts of "Oh my God!" and "We love you!" as he tossed shirts to the crowd, and walked into the theater, dressed in a black leather coat, his hair in a ponytail.

Pitt said he hopes fans have gone to the bathroom and bought their snacks before the film starts, because once it does, "It's the most intense thing you're going to see all summer."

"Once this thing starts, it does not let up," he said.

The movie hits theaters on June 21. Pitt stars as a United Nations worker who is trying to stop a zombie pandemic that is threatening the entire globe.
