1 Killed, Several Wounded In Citywide Shootings

(CBS) -- An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot Monday in an apparent drive-by shooting in Englewood -- one of several victims struck by gunfire across Chicago over a relatively short span of time.
Relatives identified the victim as April McDaniel, an aspiring singer and dancer. She and four others were shot around 5 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Sangamon Avenue. McDaniel, who was shot in the throat, was later pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said.
Four males also were wounded in that incident: 21-year-old shot in the left leg; a 15-year-old shot in the right leg; an 18-year-old shot in the stomach; and a 20-year-old shot in the left hand and right knee.
Five Shot In Englewood
In a separate drive-by shooting, a 19-year-old man was wounded in the 5200 block of South Fairfield Avenue around 8:25 p.m., when someone in a red vehicle shot him as it passed by. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
About 5:30 p.m., a man was grazed by a bullet in the 1400 block of East 66th Place, and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
Earlier, around 3:20 p.m. in Uptown, Chicago Police say a man and a woman were shot near a shopping plaza at Lawrence and Sheridan. Police say a 20-year-old woman was shot in the leg and shoulder and a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg.
Both were stable as they were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Zala tells WBBM Newsradio.
Just before 3 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the hand while walking in the 8900 block of South Buffalo Avenue. He was taken in good condition to Trinity Hospital.
At about 2:50 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the thigh, arm and buttocks in the 7000 block of South Bishop Street. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Zala said.
