EVANSTON (CBS) -- Evanston Police are looking for whoever is responsible for going green - and breaking the law.

It was a resident who noticed Saturday that his recycling bin in the alley was not in the right place. And he called police.

Because inside that bin, "Nine bales of cannabis. They were fairly good size bales that totaled approximately 100 pounds in weight."

Evanston Police Commander Jay Parrott says the marijuana's street value is about 100-thousand dollars.

"We obviously at this point believe that there probably was an exchange set up, trying to use a clever method - thinking nobody would look into that recycling bin."

But the resident of the 1000 block of Brown Avenue did look.

Police say they will analyze fingerprints on the wrapping of the nine bales.
