1 Dead, At Least 3 Wounded In NW Side Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 21-year-old man was fatally shot and three others wounded in a shooting on the Northwest Side Friday night.

The shooting, which included a 17-year-old female who was wounded on the side of her head, happened about 7:50 p.m. on the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, officials said.

Fire department officials said there were five victims in the shooting, while police reported four.

According to neighbors, there was a crowd of people standing on the porch just before the shots were fired.

The shooter or shooters apparently started firing at the porch then chased people inside the house, according to one neighbor.

Renee Soto, 21, of an unidentified home address, was killed in the shooting, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Two to three families lived in the brick bungalow, according to neighbors. Some neighbors had considered reporting that the home might have been overcrowded situation but never did.

Neighbors said crying children were taken from the home after the shooting.

"Police pulled a lot of children out of there, some of them were crying and carrying bags of their belongings," said neighbor Nelson Mojica, who had heard six to 10 shots.

"It sounded like fireworks," said his wife Danielle Mojica.
