Firefighter Among Five Hurt In Southwest Side Fire
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A firefighter was among five people injured when a three-alarm blaze erupted at a South Lawndale apartment building Monday afternoon on the Southwest Side.
The fire started in a building in the 2400 block of South Central Park Avenue and was eventually elevated to third alarm when flames started shooting through the roof, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Two adults were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and St. Anthony Hospital, Fire Media said. A firefighter suffered an injured hand. Their ages and genders were not immediately known.
The fire department later reported a 29-year-old woman also suffered smoke inhalation and an 8-year-old girl had an asthma attack from the smoke. Both were taken to area hospitals.
The blaze, which started about 4 p.m., was under control by 5:30 p.m., according to Fire Media.
The CTA rerouted buses in the area as firefighters battled the blaze.
