Man Killed In Shooting Near South Shore Home

CHICAGO (STMW) — A man was shot to death less than a half-mile from his South Shore neighborhood home Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened at 11:52 a.m. at 75th Street and Yates Boulevard, police said.

Cortez Bailey, 23, of the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died at 12:22 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was shot in the head and chest, police said, though authorities had no details on the circumstances surrounding his death as of Wednesday evening.

A police source said the victim had gang affiliations.

Area South detectives are investigating.
