CHICAGO (STMW) — Bond was set at $250,000 Saturday for a 21-year-old woman who authorities say was one of two people who robbed two employees of a Morgan Park neighborhood beauty supply shop last month of cash and thousands of dollars worth of hair extensions, after pepper-spraying them and beating them with a cell phone.
The man and woman walked into the store in the 11100 block of South Western Avenue on three separate occasions on the morning of Monday June 3, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
On the third trip, just before noon, the man pulled out a handgun and the woman sprayed one of the two clerks, a 57-year-old woman, with pepper spray, Mirabelli said. The other clerk, a 21-year-old woman, also got pepper spray in her face, he said. One of the two victims had an allergic reaction to the spray, prosecutors said on Saturday.
The man then went behind the counter and grabbed “several thousand dollars’ worth of hair extensions” and cash from the register, Mirabelli said. One of the clerk’s purses—which contained money, credit cards and IDs—was also taken.
Prosecutors said at a hearing on Saturday that Tinesha Brown was ID’d through surveillance photos and a photo array shown to the victims. She was arrested Friday morning by a Gresham District robbery/burglary team. Her alleged accomplice, a man believed to be between 18 and 22 years old, has not been arrested.
According to an arrest report read in court on Saturday, the 5-foot-4, 160-pound Brown sprayed the victims with the pepper spray, then beat them with a cell phone, holding them down at one point. The two got $2,000 in cash from the register, about $5,000-worth of hair extensions, and one of the victim’s purses.
The 57-year-old clerk was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where she was treated and released, Mirabelli said. The younger clerk was treated at the scene.
Brown’s bond was set at $250,000 and her next court date was scheduled for July 12.
