Teen Dies Following South Deering Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teen died after he was shot Sunday in the South Deering neighborhood.

The shooting occurred at 2:50 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Oglesby Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

The boy, 16, was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, where he later died, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

His name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.

Fire Media Affairs initially said he was in his 30s.

Area South detectives are investigating.
