Tourist Gives Birth To Son At O'Hare International Terminal
(CBS) -- It must have been a long flight.
A pregnant woman boarded a plane in Abu Dhabi and flew 7,200 miles to Chicago. Just as she got off the plane, she went into labor – and her baby wasn't going to wait.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.
Adam Alghoul will have quite a story to tell when he grows up about where he was born. He came into the world in the International Terminal at O'Hare Airport.
"Too much pain started suddenly and I told him, 'I don't want the luggage. Call an ambulance. I don't know what's happening,'" Inam Alghoul tells CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot.
Chief Brian Bell with U.S. Customs and Border Protection heard the call for an ambulance come over the command center radio. The former paramedic knew exactly what to do.
"We immediately laid her down. A female supervisor came over to assist. We went ahead and took a visual look, and there was the little baby's head," Bells says.
Little Adam, who was due Sept. 17, weighs 3 pounds and 7 ounces. He and his mom were rushed to Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, where he was in a special-care nursery.
Inam Alghoul was grateful to everyone who helped her and her son. She had been given clearance by her physician to fly overseas.
