MUNDELEIN (STMW) -- A 16-year-old Grayslake boy was killed late Thursday when he was struck by an SUV driven by an 18-year-old in northwest suburban Mundelein.

Mundelein police responded at 11:34 p.m. to the accident on Route 45, just south of University Drive, according to a release from police.

The 16-year-old was struck in the roadway by a maroon 2009 Honda SUV traveling north, police said. The Honda was driven by an 18-year-old male from Gurnee.

The victim was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Members of the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) were called to the scene to assist in the investigation. As of Friday morning, there have been no charges filed nor were there any signs of impairment. The crash is still under investigation.
