NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) — A 6-year-old boy appears to have drowned in a pond near an apartment complex in Naperville.

Police identified the victim as Ahmer Khan. His father is at a loss.

“It’s hurting and I can’t eat and I don’t know what to do. Each of his toy reminds me about him. I just miss him,” said Mohammed Khan, the boy’s father.

Mr. Khan says somehow his son slipped out the house and came here to the pond near 95th and Cedar Glade Drive. A neighbor saw the boy face down. The passerby tried to save him.

“He went in the water and pulled the child and began CPR. We had police officers on the scene about two minutes later,” said Naperville Fire Chief Mark Thurow.

Amer was rushed to Edward Hospital. Doctors tried to revive him. Twenty minutes later he was pronounced dead.

“When I was notified, he was already dead at Edward hospital. I’m really shocked and i don’t know what to do,” Khan said.
