Man Killed In Shooting Near CPD Headquarters

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot to death early Saturday, about a block away from the Chicago Police Department's headquarters on the South Side.

Willie Clark, 32, was shot about 12:45 a.m. while standing with a group of people behind a building in the 3600 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A male shooter approached and opened fire, leaving the man with a gunshot wound to the armpit, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Clark, of the 2100 block of East 97th Street, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

No one is in custody Saturday morning as Area detectives investigate.
