Rangers Star Cruz Says He Made 'Error In Judgment'

(AP) Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz says he is accepting his 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball and admits that he made an "error in judgment."

Cruz was among 13 players disciplined Monday for their relationship to Biogenesis of America, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida accused of distributing banned performing-enhancing drugs.

The All-Star right fielder said in a statement that from November 2011 through January 2012 he has gastrointestinal infection that wasn't properly diagnosed for more than a month. He says he lost 40 pounds not long before reporting to spring training and was unsure he'd be physically able to play.

Cruz said faced with that situation he "made an error in judgment" that he deeply regrets. He wasn't more specific.
