CHICAGO (CBS) – One person was killed and seven people were injured Tuesday afternoon, when three cars crashed in the Morgan Park neighborhood.

Five ambulances were sent to the scene of the crash at 10936 S. Vincennes Av., around 12:40 p.m., according to the Fire Department.

A Buick taking part in a funeral procession got separated from the rest of the group, clipped a soft drink truck, and then crashed head-on into a Lincoln.

The person inside the Buick was pronounced dead at the hospital, Fire Media Affairs said.

The people inside the Buick were trapped as a result of the crash, and had to be rescued by firefighters using heavy pneumatic tools.

“They were pinned in. The car had collapsed around them; people in the front seat, and the back seat,” Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.

A 3- or 4-year-old girl who was in one of the cars was able to crawl out on her own.

Four people, including the child, were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition, according to the Fire Department. Three others were taken to hospitals in fair to serious condition. Another person, the truck driver, declined to be taken to a hospital.
