Two Wounded Minutes Apart In South Side Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and woman were injured minutes apart in two separate shootings on the South Side late Monday.

The 38-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 11:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Wolcott Avenue in West Englewood, police said.

The man was standing outside with a group of people when an unknown person rode past on a bicycle and opened fire, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition.

At about the same time in Chicago Lawn, about a mile and half southwest, a 36-year-old woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

She was struck twice in the chest and once in the arm in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but her condition was not immediately known.

Area South detectives were investigating.
