Teen Drowns In McKinley Park Pool

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Brighton Park neighborhood teenager apparently drowned in a McKinley Park pool Friday afternoon on the South Side.

A lifeguard pulled 14-year-old Christopher Bowen from a pool in McKinley Park, 2210 W. Pershing Rd., about 2:40 p.m., authorities said.

Paramedics took the unresponsive boy to Mount Sinai Hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him.

Bowen, of the 3700 block of South Rockwell Street, was declared dead at 3:22 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

"The loss of this young life is a tragedy. The Chicago Park District is investigating the circumstances behind this incident," park district spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner said in a statement.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
