Durbin Applauds U.S. Attorney General’s Drug Sentencing Plan
(CBS) — Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is expressing strong support for Attorney General Eric Holder’s announcement reducing mandatory minimum sentences, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
In a way Dick Durbin was applauding Attorney General Holder’s policy on mandatory minimum sentences even before it was announced.
“Attorney General Holder called me on Friday and he called because I have introduced a bill with Mike Lee who is a tea party Republican from Utah and it calls for sentencing reform. We focus on one aspect: non-violent drug crimes,” said Durbin.
That is also a focus of the Attorney General’s plan. Durbin agrees there are too many people behind bars for relatively minor offenses.
