Terror Suspect Now Charged With Soliciting Murder Of FBI Agent
(STMW) -- A terror suspect already accused of plotting to blow up a downtown Chicago bar now faces an additional charge of soliciting the murder of an undercover FBI agent.
Adel Daoud, 19, was arrested in September and accused of attempting to blow up neighboring bars in the South Loop, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Now prosecutors say that while behind bars awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Daoud in October and November tried to get an accomplice to kill the undercover FBI agent who helped catch him.
The agent posed as a terrorist from New York who could supply Daoud with a bomb. When Daoud, of west suburban Hillside, pressed a button that he believed would detonate the bomb outside Cal's and the Cactus Bar and Grill next-door on the evening of Sept. 14, he was arrested, the feds say.
In an attempt to beat the case, Daoud offered to pay an assassin to kill the agent so that he couldn't testify in court, it's alleged.
Daoud is allegedly pals with another teenage terror suspect, Abdella Tounisi, who was arrested in April and accused of attempting to travel to Syria to join Al-Qaeda. Like Daoud, Tounisi was snared in an undercover FBI plot.
Daoud's attorney Thomas Durkin has previously alleged that Daoud was entrapped by the FBI. Durkin has also filed numerous motions asking to see secret evidence against Daoud that was collected via the National Security Agency's controversial electronic monitoring programs.
