1 Dead, 3 Wounded In Separate South Side Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 35-year-old man was killed and three others wounded during separate South Side shootings that have occurred since Wednesday afternoon.

Dwan Long was fatally shot in the chest when two men walked up and one of them opened fire about 8:05 p.m. in the 8200 block of South Avalon Avenue, police said.

Long, of the 8200 block of South Langley Avenue, lived about a mile from where he was shot. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 9:01 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The most recent shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. in West Englewood. Police said a 21-year-old man was shot in the neck after conversing with another man about drugs. The attacker apparently pulled out a gun when their conversation ended and shot the 21-year-old, police said.

The 21-year-old was in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center Thursday morning, police said. His attacker fled on foot and was not in police custody.

Earlier, a man was wounded in a McKinley Park neighborhood shooting.

Two males on bicycles approached an 18-year-old man standing in the 3700 block of South Honore Street and one of the cyclists shot the man in the upper chest about 5:25 p.m., police said.

He is in "stable" condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.

The shootings started about 2:40 p.m. when a 25-year-old man was shot in the left leg in the 3900 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in "stable" condition.
