Sandberg Returns To Wrigley As Phillies Manager

CHICAGO (AP) — Ryne Sandberg is back at Wrigley Field. Only this time, he's sitting in the visitor's dugout.

The Hall of Fame second baseman is the interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, who opened a weekend series at the Chicago Cubs on a steamy Friday afternoon. Sandberg says he left about 15 tickets for family members, including five grandchildren.

Sandberg's consistent, steady play over 15 seasons with Chicago turned him into one of the most beloved figures in the history of the woebegone franchise. Nicknamed "Ryno," he finished his career with a .285 batting average, 282 homers and 1,061 RBIs.

This is his first trip back since he was elevated to manager on Aug. 16. He says it feels good to be back in Chicago.
