Bryant Named Cubs Minor League Player Of The Month

(CBS) Though he's only been in the Cubs organization since June, Single-A Dayton third baseman Kris Bryant has been named the Cubs Minor League Player of the Month for August.

Pitcher Pierce Johnson won the award for Pitcher of the Month.

The 21-year-old Bryant hit .381 (32-for-84) with nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 21 RBI in 24 August games between Short-Season Class-A Boise and Daytona.

Bryant added a .438 on-base percentage and a .762 slugging percentage.

Johnson, 22, was 3-0 with a 1.02 ERA in four starts in August, the last three for Daytona. He kept opponents to a .186 batting average, while striking out 22.
