Man Charged With Shooting 10-Year-Old With Pellet Gun

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- A 10-year-old boy was shot with a pellet gun while biking home from a southwest suburban school Tuesday, and an 18-year-old man has been charged, the Herald-News is reporting.

Shortly before 4:20 p.m., the victim and a friend were riding in the 500 block of North School Street when they passed a group of teenage boys shooting a plastic Airsoft pellet gun, according to Braidwood Police Sgt. Bret Goodwin.

James F. Cichy of 177 W. Cermak Road was holding the gun and shot at the boy, striking him at least once in the leg, Goodwin said.

The boy went home to tell his parents, who called police. The boy was not hospitalized, Goodwin said.

Officers located Cichy and seized a pellet gun. He was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, police said.
