Police: Convicted Thief Electrocuted While Stealing Copper

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- Detectives believe a man was trying to steal copper when he was electrocuted by cutting a live wire this weekend, the Joliet Herald-News reports.

Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, a friend of Daniel J. Paige, 50, directed police to his body near some ComEd lines on the property of Seeler Industries, 1 Genstar Lane, according to Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas. Paige's brother reported him missing to Joliet police on Sunday.

"The friend said he'd last seen Paige on August 29 and brought (the brother) and deputies to that specific location," Kaupas said. "It appears he was trying to remove the wiring."

ComEd told investigators the neutral wire had been cut, according to reports. An autopsy performed Monday showed Paige died from electrocution.

At the time of his death, Paige was on parole from a four-year sentence for his fourth burglary-related conviction. He had also served time for robbery.
