Two Women Killed In Wrong-Way Ike Crash

FOREST PARK, Ill. (STMW) -- Alcohol is a factor in a wrong-way crash on the Eisenhower Expressway that killed two women and left a third woman seriously hurt early Saturday, State Police said.

The crash happened about 1:50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the expressway (I-290) near Harlem Avenue, Illinois State Police said.

A 20-year-old Chicago man apparently entered the expressway at Harlem Avenue driving a red Dodge minivan wrong way and collided with a blue Ford carrying three women, Illinois State Police said.

The driver of the Ford, 19-year-old Briana Resto of Northlake, as well as a passenger in the same vehicle, 20-year-old Monica Hernandez, were both killed in the crash, State Police said.

They were both taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where they were pronounced dead, Master Sergeant Jason LoCoco said.

A third woman in the Ford, a 20-year-old from Maywood, was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in "serious but stable" condition, State Police said.

Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash, and the charges are pending against driver of the minivan, State Police said.

He and the 20-year-old Cicero man riding in his vehicle are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Loyola Hospital, State Police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the fatalities, but was not releasing further information early Saturday.

All eastbound lanes of the expressway were closed for several hours overnight as crews investigated.
