Baez, Hendricks Named Minor League Player, Pitcher Of The Year
(CBS) The Cubs have named 2011 first-round draft pick Javier Baez and pitcher Kyle Hendricks their minor league player and pitcher of the year.
The two will be honored during an on-field ceremony at Wrigley Field on September 21 before the Braves game.
The 20-year-old Baez combined to bat .282 with 34 doubles, four triples, 37 home runs and 111 RBIs in 130 games between Single-A Daytona and Double-A Tennessee. He paced minor league baseball with his 111 RBIs and 75 extra-base hits.
Hendricks, 23, combined to go 13-4 with a 2.00 ERA and one shutout in 27 starts between Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. He also added 128 strikeouts with just 34 walks in 166 1/3 innings pitched.
