One Dead, 8 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.

Miguel Delgado, 19, was shot dead in the street about 2:20 a.m. Saturday in the Wicker Park neighborhood, along a trendy strip of bars in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, authorities said. Delgado, who was shot in the head, died a few minutes later, authorities said.

Manuel Gonzalez, 26, of the 2600 block of North California Avenue, faces one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, police said.

Police initially said the shooting was gang-related.

Eight other people were wounded in weekend shootings, including a 14-year-old girl who was the unintended target of a shooting Friday afternoon on the South Side, police said.

The girl was in the 7900 block of South Vernon Avenue about 4:55 p.m. when two groups of males nearby opened fire on each other and she was struck in the leg, police said.

She was taken in good condition to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

Later Friday night, a 40-year-old woman was shot in the Austin neighborhood.

The woman was in the 100 block of South Lavergne Avenue when she was shot in the leg about 11:15 p.m., police said. She was taken in good condition to Loretto Hospital.

The most recent shooting happened early Sunday when a male walked into Loretto Hospital about 3:10 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his right leg. He told police he was shot in the 200 block of North Laramie Avenue.
