Crews Searching For Man In Lake Near Antioch

ANTIOCH, Ill. (CBS) -- Divers from across the northern suburbs are searching Lake Marie in the Chain O'Lakes for a man who disappeared from a boat into the water.

The man under water was a father with his daughters and CBS 2 has been told he was a strong swimmer.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports they apparently had engine trouble. The dad fell in in the process and never resurfaced. Authorities were able to precisely pinpoint that location with enhanced 9-1-1 and lasered the search within a few feet of that.

The victims friend spoke to CBS 2.

"Athletic, really nice guy. Just loved his children and his wife and lived on the lake," said Cindy Corr, a friend of the missing man. "Knowing how strong a swimmer he is, I would expect to see him swim to shore somewhere and show up."

The area is a few hundred yards from shore. A specialized team is using sonar in hopes of locating the father. It is though no longer a rescue effort.
