Body Found In West Chicago Might Be Missing Arlington Heights Man

WEST CHICAGO (CBS) -- The body of a missing elderly Arlington Heights man might have been found in a ravine in West Chicago.

WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports a landscaper working near Illinois Route 59 and Hawthorne Lane flagged down a West Chicago police officer Thursday afternoon, when he found a car off the road.

"The car struck several bushes, some underbrush, and trees, before coming to rest against a tree in that deep ravine," said West Chicago Police Cmdr. Eric Shipman.

According to Shipman, even walking along the road, it was difficult to see the car.

"It's not something you would see from the roadway at all," he said.

Shipman said the only way someone would have seen the car would have been by going into the wooded area where it was found. The landscaper had been mowing grass nearby when he spotted the car.

The dark gray Buick sedan was registered to 84-year-old Eugene Jonsson, of Arlington Heights, who was reported missing on Aug. 23.

A partially decomposed body was found next to the car, and the DuPage County Coroner was conducting an autopsy, as police worked to confirm if the body was Jonsson.
