Sheriff's Officer Investigated For Alleged Rape
LOWELL, Ind. (STMW) -- Indiana State Police are investigating a member of the Lake County Sheriff's department for an alleged sexual assault.
According to a news release from the State Police post at Lowell, the investigation is ongoing.
The release did not identify the person being investigated or offer any other details of the alleged crime, the Post-Tribune is reporting.
The officer was placed immediately on paid administrative leave Sept. 20 when Sheriff John Buncich learned of the allegations, said John Bushemi, attorney for the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
Bushemi also would not identify the officer.
"The sheriff took immediate action, and the officer has been relieved of his duties until the outcome of the ISP investigation," Bushemi said.
