Student Shot Outside Chicago's Roosevelt High School

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person is in custody after a student was shot outside a high school on the Northwest Side on Wednesday.

The shooting happened near Roosevelt High School, 3426 W. Wilson.

WBBM Newsradio reports the victim is a 15-year-old boy and was shot in the thigh.

He was listed in good condition at Illinois Masonic.

Police were on the scene in the Albany Park neighborhood. Crime scene tape covered the corner of Kimball and Leland, which is just north of the high school.

Witnesses told CBS 2 the victim was a freshman at Roosevelt.

Around 2:25 p.m., witnesses said, someone put a gun to the boy's head, possibly as part of some sort of gang initiation. A friend pushed the gun away and the gun went off, striking the student in the leg.

Police would only say the boy suffered a leg wound.

The weapon has been recovered, police said.
