The Bears have a chance to go up two games on the Lions, matching their cushion over Green Bay. Detroit, which hasn’t won the division in 20 years, sees this as a “statement” game, according to Reggie Bush. The Bears’ seven wins over Detroit in the last eight is statement enough. Uncertainty with Tillman’s status looms. Given perfect health, this one has several matchup disadvantages for the Bears. Stafford has been sacked just twice. Bears don’t have a pass rush. Are the Bears really good, or have they simply been feasting the last few weeks on bad teams? I checked with Dick Johnson, Dick Post and, once again, Dick Armey. Here’s their collective answer: Lions 31, Bears 28.

The Bears have been living on the edge with their lack of pressure from the front four and mistakes in Cover-2 and Cover-3. Maybe the Bears are looking ahead to New Orleans, maybe not. But they better look out for the Lions in this one. The Lions are a tough matchup, but this coaching staff has come up with successful game plans each of the first three weeks. I’m rolling with Trestman until proven otherwise. In an offensive bonanza, the Bears’ growl is not quite loud enough to drown out the Lions’ roar, and Detroit tells CHICA to GO home with their first loss.

It’s going to be close, but I assume someone on the Lions will do something stupid that leads to a loss. Because…the Lions. I ain’t Lion when I say this game makes me nervous but the Monsters will prevail in a shootout as Motor City drowns its sorrows with some Buddy’s square pizza pie – Lions, Tigers, and BEARS – 4 and oh my. If Charles Tillman plays in this game, I like the Bears even more. I have zero faith in any Jim Schwartz coached team in a big game. This is a big one in the NFC North divisional race, so I’m going with Trestman. Bearsssss.

The Bears showed some resiliency on the road in Pittsburgh, but I don’t think they’ll have enough gas in the tank to finish the job in the Motor City, especially with Peanut Tillman on a bad wheel and Henry Melton parked like an old Model T. Without Peanut to diffuse Megatron, Detroit wins in a shootout. For years, the Bears offense has prevented them from being able to compete in a shootout, but times have changed. Both of these teams have holes in their back seven on defense for different reasons. The Lions lack the personnel, the Bears lack a pass rush. Track meet on turf, but the Bears are the better team. The Bears can block and Suh doesn’t scare them. It’s “time in the pocket” that will allow Jay Cutler to enjoy his best game of the season; well over 300 yards passing and 4 TD’s in a high scoring Bears victory.
