CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Mundelein have released a sketch of a suspect in a child abduction and are asking for the public's help in finding the offender.

Police Release Suspect Sketch

It was early evening and a mother and her two daughters - one nine years old and the other three - were coming home from shopping.

Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther says the mother went through the two sets of doors in the apartment building, thinking her daughters were right behind her.

But they were in the vestibule - when a man came in - and offered the girls candy.

"The kids were standing there for a few minutes when the offender approaches and has a short conversation with both the victim, the three-year-old, and the sister - at which time he literally, physically grabbed the three-year-old and takes her back to his vehicle, which is a short distance away, and drives away with her in it," Guenther said.

Chief Guenther says the man dropped the girl off about half an hour later at a nearby parking lot.
