1 Dead, 1 Injured In West Pullman Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man is dead and another was wounded following a Saturday afternoon shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The two men, both 19, were shot about 2:20 p.m. while standing on the sidewalk in the 11700 block of South Morgan Street, police said.

Three males emerged from a gangway and started shooting, authorities said.

Cory Atwater, who lived on the block where he was shot, was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 3:39 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other man was shot in the foot, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The injury was not life-threatening.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
