Reps Schakowsky, Gutierrez Arrested At Immigration Rally In Washington

(CBS) -- U.S. Reps Jan Schakowsky and Luis Gutierrez were both arrested after blocking a street near the U.S. Capitol as part of a rally for immigration reform.

A spokesperson from Schakowsky's office released a statement saying, "Rep. Schakowsky stood in solidarity with her colleagues and immigrant rights advocates to demand a House vote on comprehensive immigration reform. She participated in civil disobedience to urge Republican leadership to bring this critical bill for a vote."

About 200 others were arrested as part of the protest. The purpose of the rally was to push House Republicans to pass immigration reform.

They were both released from police custody approximately two hours after being arrested.
