Logan Square Man Wielded Ax In Attempted Mugging: Authorities

CHICAGO (STMW) — A man from Logan Square was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail Sunday after allegedly trying to mug someone with an ax, this Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Jimmie Ortiz, 30, of the 1800 block of North Kedzie, is charged with armed robbery. Court records show he pulled open a car door while wielding an ax Saturday in the 1700 block of N. St. Louis and allegedly told the man inside to “give me your stuff.”

He tried to take a cell phone, records show, but the victim and other witnesses were able to overpower him and hold him until Chicago Police arrived.
